Okay, normally things like this don't bother me but this is really pestering me the more I see it.
So everyone knows that little icon people put in their journals and art descriptions that says "Comment before you fave" and there is a stamp that says, "I just fav and run." (why should we have to feel bad about enjoying someone's work just becasue we have nothing to say?)
What is with all these artists suddenly using the icon demanding comments before favorites?
Now I know I'm not the best artist in the world and I don't even consider my work decent at times but, as someone who works really hard to make pictures for people to look at, I'm really just happy if anyone views them. It makes me really happy just to see people add my work to their favorites becasue I know they liked it enough to favorite and they didn't even have to give me the time of day but they did! If I was demanding comments before favorites, they might have thought, "I really like this picture but I really can't think of anything to say so I guess I just won't favorite it either because that would annoy the artist." So there, I would have just missed out on a favorite and more possible views. Shouldn't we be humble about our work? It's okay to like your own art but expecting everyone to take the time to leave you comments just becasue you think they should is kind of haughty, yes? Everyone loves feedback and comments on their work but demanding it is bothersome. Also, when people see that icon, they might go ahead and leave a comment because they don't want to annoy the artist but then they just end up writing, "Good," "Cool," or "Nice job," you know, the typical I-didn't-put-much-thought-into-this-comment-because-I'm-in-a-hurry kind of comment. (Not that those are always bad comments, some people just don't have much to say ,which is fine.) Aren't people happy to get favorites or does that not mean anything to most people? I think it's the most important thing (besides watching an artist).
I'm not really so bothered by this, but I just want to hear others opinions on this.
Do you find it slightly arrogant/annoying?
